When Digital Presence Doesn’t Line Up With The Brand Standard

How I helped a premium wedding venue increase visibility and brand presence through SEO and digital strategy

Client: Leigh Court
Industry: Events, weddings & venue hire

Overview

Leigh Court is a historic Grade II* listed mansion house near Bristol, operating as a premium wedding and events venue.

The venue already had a strong reputation locally and a steady flow of enquiries from both corporate customers and weddings. However, much of its visibility relied on existing brand awareness, directories, and word-of-mouth, rather than a fully optimised digital strategy.

My role over 3 years was to help strengthen their long-term visibility by improving their SEO foundations, refining their content strategy, and identifying opportunities to attract new audiences actively searching for wedding venues online.

The Situation

When I began working with Leigh Court, the business had a good Google AdWords strategy, but was not fully capitalising on search demand within the wedding market organically.

Like many venues, they were listed on major wedding directories, but their own website was not yet positioned as the primary lead-generation channel.

At the same time, the wedding industry is highly competitive in search. Couples often research extensively, comparing venues, styles, and locations before making enquiries.

This meant there was a clear opportunity to:

  • Increase direct website traffic

  • Reduce reliance on third-party platforms

  • Capture high-intent search traffic earlier in the decision-making journey

This was similar to their corporate customers too; who primarily found Leigh Court through event agancies.

Key Challenges

Several strategic gaps were identified:

  • Website content not fully aligned with how couples search (e.g. “wedding venue Bristol”, “country house wedding venue UK”)

  • Limited SEO structure supporting key venue-related keywords

  • Underutilisation of blog content to capture early-stage search intent

  • Lack of a structured backlink strategy to build domain authority

  • Opportunities being missed within wedding blogs, press, and editorial features to create backlinks

My Approach

I focused on strengthening Leigh Court’s visibility through a combination of SEO strategy, content planning, and authority building.

This included:

  • SEO optimisation: Aligning key pages with high-intent wedding searches and improving on-page structure

  • Content strategy: Developing blog topics to attract couples earlier in their planning journey

  • Backlink strategy: Securing features in wedding blogs and publications through real weddings, styled shoots, and supplier collaborations

  • Visibility alignment: Ensuring social content supported SEO and could be leveraged for PR and editorial opportunities

The overall goal was to shift Leigh Court from relying on directories to building sustainable, search-led visibility and direct enquiries.

Outcome

The work positioned Leigh Court for stronger long-term digital growth by shifting focus from reliance on third-party platforms to owned visibility and search performance.

Key improvements included:

  • Clearer SEO strategy aligned with how couples search

  • Stronger website foundations to support organic traffic growth

  • A structured content approach supporting both SEO and user journey

  • A defined backlink strategy to build authority within the wedding industry

  • Increased opportunities for press, blog features, and referral traffic

Over time, this approach supports:

  • Higher quality inbound enquiries

  • Greater visibility in competitive search results

  • Reduced dependency on paid listings and directories

Client Feedback

"Charlie’s input has been incredibly valuable in the evolution of Martec since we were first introduced to her.

Her initial project was to review our website in detail, identify its weaknesses and recommend how we could address them. The insights were extremely useful and helped shape the redevelopment of our website and our wider digital strategy.

Charlie has continued to support us as the business has grown, helping us refine our approach to SEO and explore new ways to reach audiences beyond our existing customer base.

Her advice has made a real difference to how we approach our strategy and investment decisions, and we have greatly valued her ongoing support."
